(John 1:1-17)
In the Beginning was the Word (Jesus 1)
John 1:1-5
- All things were made through Him,
- and without Him was not any thing made that was made
- In Him was life, and the life was the light of men
- The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

- A man sent by God
- To bear witness about the light
- So that all might believe through his witness
- He was not the light, but a witness about the light

The True Light which gives light to everyone (Jesus 2)

- In the world
- The world made through Him
- His own people did not receive Him
- But some did receive Him
The Word became flesh and dwelt among us (Jesus 3)

- He who comes after me ranks before me, because He was before me
- Greater Covenant Administrator than Moses (Hebrews)
- Jesus makes the Father known

(This was something the audience would have been expecting before the Messiah. In John 1:20, not Christ, Elijah, or Prophet. This eludes to the expectations of the day. Like
Matt. 11:11-15, Matt. 16:13-14, Matt 17:9-13, Matt. 27:47-49
The Lamb of God (Jesus 4)
John 1:29-34
- Who takes away the sin of the world!
- John 1:15, After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.
- Baptizing with water so that He might be revealed to Israel (Why are you baptizing? 1 John 1:25-28)
- I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove and it remained on Him.
- This is the One who will baptize with the Holy Spirit
- By this we know this is the Son of God
