Part 1 

(John 1:1-17)

In the Beginning was the Word (Jesus 1)

John 1:1-5 

• All things were made through Him,
•  and without Him was not any thing made that was made
• In Him was life, and the life was the light of men
• The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

John (Part 1)

(To bear witness)

John 1:6-8

• A man sent by God
• To bear witness about the light
• So that all might believe through his witness
• He was not the light, but a witness about the light

(John 3:30)

The True Light which gives light to everyone (Jesus 2)

John 1:9-13 

• In the world
• The world made through Him
• His own people did not receive Him
• But some did receive Him 

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us (Jesus 3)

John 1:14-18, 

• Grace and Truth
• He who comes after me ranks before me, because He was before me
• Greater Covenant Administrator than Moses (Hebrews)
• Jesus makes the Father known

(John 1:19-34)

John (Part 2)

John 1:19-28, Isa. 40:3-5

(This was something the audience would have been expecting before the Messiah. In John 1:20, not Christ, Elijah, or Prophet. This eludes to the expectations of the day. Like

Matt. 11:11-15, Matt. 16:13-14,  Matt 17:9-13,  Matt. 27:47-49 

The Lamb of God (Jesus 4)

John 1:29-34

• Who takes away the sin of the world!
• John 1:15, After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.
• Baptizing with water so that He might be revealed to Israel (Why are you baptizing? 1 John 1:25-28)
• I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove and it remained on Him. 
• This is the One who will baptize with the Holy Spirit
• By this we know this is the Son of God

The Disciples

• John 1:43-44, Philip (from Bethsaida, same town as Andrew and Peter)
• John 1:45-51, Nathanael (a Israelite indeed)

The Wedding Feast (Matt. 22:1-14)

 Matt: 22:1-14, Eph. 5:31-32

1-Invite

2-Compel

3-Willing to Come In

Matt. 22:1-10

Compel them to come in all that are willing

Kingdom of Heaven may be  compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son

For those called to the service of the King their role is to compel other to come to the wedding feast 

For those invited to the wedding feast their role is to be willing to come in.

It is not our job to chose who we invite, we are called to invite all, and the only requirement for the wedding feast entry it to be willing to come in.

The invitation can come at an inconvenient time. So the consideration must be how important is this wedding feast and will one drop everything in order to make it? Will you not be willing to go to the wedding feast because you have a schedule, agenda, or plans in this life that will keep you from attending?

So in the text we see 3 stages. 

1-a select group is invited and they do not come (Matt. 22:1-3)

Eph. 5:7-16

2-the select group is compelled to come in and they get hostile toward those who are compelling them to come in. (Matt. 22:4-7)

3-the invitation is made to all and those who are willing come in (Both good and bad) and the banquet is full (Matt. 22:8-10)

Eph. 5:31-32 (22-33)

We are the bride. This wedding feast is to celebrate us being joined to Christ. If we choose not to come or are not willing to come we are in reality saying we don’t want to go to our own wedding. (Good news for us fathers of daughter the man’s family pays for this wedding)

In the Bible story we see the first child that God fathers recorded in scripture and that is to the nation of Israel. But in the New Testament we see other children from other nations grafted into the family of God. This group of people that was originally invited and refused to come in is the first son, and the last group is the gentile nations that were grafted in because of the first sons refusal to attend the wedding feast.

2-the select group is compelled to come in and they get hostile toward those who are compelling them to come in. (Matt. 22:4-7)

Vs. 4, Tell those who are invited “See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast.

1-vs 5, they paid no attention and went off, one to his farm, another to his business (Misinformed)

2-vs 6, while the rest seized his servants and treated them shamefully (Mockers)

3-and killed them (Murderers)

3-the invitation is made to all and those who are willing come in (Both good and bad) and the banquet is full (Matt. 22:8-10)

Both good and bad. Not based on your moral character or your natural abilities. Based on the willingness to be joined in marriage to Christ. Willingness to become one with Him. Willingness to respond to the invitation given to come.

Matt. 22:11-14

King came to look at guest

One had no wedding garment

How did you  get in here without a wedding garment?

Cast him out

Many are called, but few are chosen

A Man Born Blind (John 9)

“Who are They?”

A Man Born Blind (John 9)

 John 9:1-7, 

The Disciples

Blind so that the works of God might be displayed.

Here we see the disciples make a wrong assumption that Jesus corrects, Who’s sins caused the man to be born blind? We all to often associate bad things to be a result of sin. Sometimes they are so God can show His glory.

John 9:8-12,

The Neighbors 

Some thinks the man is the blind beggar and others think it is someone else. The blind man is trying to convince them that he is the blind man they new as a beggar in their community.

John 9:13-16,

The Pharisees

Does a man of God break the Sabbath? Can a man that is not of God do such signs?

Divided on what to think?

John 9:18-23,

The Parents

If we confess Jesus, we will be cast out of the synagogue. What does that mean for us if we are cast out of the church. Is Jesus worth that?

John 9:24-26

Eye Opening Knowledge

What I do know is that I was blind and now I see

I have already told you and you would not listen. Why do you keep asking me the same question again and again?

John 9:28-33

Blinding Knowledge

The Pharisees, who are suppose to have the answer about what God does or doesn’t do can not explain the source of this great sign.

Casted Out of the Community 

The transfer of trust in the religious system to Christ alone for salvation

John 9:39-41

Claiming that you See

Is what you see through the lens of your fallen man or through the enlightened eyes that have been open by Jesus?
