This week, we are looking at the 4th question, Paul asked in vs. 7, Is the Law Sin?
1-What is the Purpose of the Law?
2-How does the Law reveal our outward sinful acts?
3-How does the Law reveal our inward sinful intentions?
4-How does submitting to God’s word effect how it reveals our sin?
5-Is there a solution to our sin problem?
Consider a COVID or Cancer Test.
Are these test sinful?
If they give you bad news does that make them sinful?
If they give you good news does that make them righteous?
Are you glad that there is a test that can recognize if you have COVID or Cancer?
In the same way, the law serves the purpose of revealing your fallen condition, so that your will seek out a solution.
If you recognize you have COVID or Cancer are you willing to seek out a solution?
Do you want to deal with the problem?
The Law revealing our sin is just scratching the surface.
It is just investigating the outward signs.
It encourages one to take a deeper exploration under the surface to find out the root cause for their outward signs.
The Law ultimately reveals, we all have a sin condition and we are unable to resolve it on our own.
We need help.
We need a Savior.
In the Law is Justice
In Christ is Mercy (and Justice)
The Law reveals our sin both outwardly first, but then also inwardly.
The actions first (murder & adultery) then the heart behind the actions second (anger & lust).
If we deny the outward calling of the actions, we will not ever come to know how the Law shows us the inward errors of our heart.
The kindness of the law is it shows us what our problem is, so that we will be encouraged to seek a solution
The Bible is not silent on the problem nor the solution.
Just as the law informs a person of their outward sin, their inward sin and where the heart of where that sin comes from, it also points to Christ as our solution.
