4-Hebrews 2:5-18 (The Founder of Salvation)

- What is man that you are mindful of him?

-You made the son of man for a little while lower than the angels

You have crowned Him with glory and honor, putting everything in subjection under His feet

-Subjection (nothing is outside of His control) We do not see that right now though.

Jesus is crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death

He tasted (2nd) death for everyone

The founder of our salvation was made perfect through suffering

He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source

-That is why He is not ashamed to call them brothers

Share in flesh and blood

He destroyed the one who has the power of death that is the devil

and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to life long slavery

It is not the angels that he helps, but the offspring of Abraham

Therefore, He had to be made like His brothers in every respect

So that, He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God to make propitiation for the sins of the people

For because (He Himself has suffered when tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted)

3-Hebrews 2:1-4 (Warning Against Neglecting Salvation)

Therefore, is a tie in from Heb. 1:1-3 and the Angel dialogue.

Therefore, We must pay much closer attention to what we have heard

Lest we drift away from it,

OT-For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution

NT-How shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation?

It was declared at first by the Lord and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

2-Hebrews 1:4-14 (The Supremacy of God's Son)

 Audio

Having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.

5-For to which of the angels did God every say?

Ps.2:7, Ps. 89.26-27, Ps.97:7, Ps.104:4

8-But of the Son He says,

Ps.45:6-7, Ps. 102:25-27

13-And to which of the angels has he ever said?

Ps.110:1

Ps.34:7, 91:11, 103:20-21

I put these verses in and recommend you do the exercise of reading them from the original source and consider how the author chose to use them and what points or assumptions did he make from them?

The take away here though is that the angels are greater than man and Jesus is way greater than angels.

1-Hebrews 1:1-4 (It is Finished)

Hebrews 1:1-4 (4-4-21) Audio

1-How does God speaks and direct His people?

  • Long ago at many times and in many ways, God spoke to the fathers by the prophets
  • But in these last days, he has spoken to us by His Son.
-What time frame is last days describing in this text?
  • 1-Plan of Redemption completely made know?
  • 2-The end of mercy for Jewish unbelief? (dispersion and falling away from Jewish traditions)
  • 3-70 AD, no more temple and no more passover sacrifices?
-Was the testimony of Christ incomplete in such a way that we still need other prophets to help us understand what God is doing in regard to redeeming His people?
  • The Cessation view on prophecy. Modern view on prophecy in its continued form.
  • The role of signs and wonders in the establishing of a covenant.
  • When Christ said "It is finished", what exactly was finished?

2-Who is Christ from the Beginning to the End?

  • Christ in the beginning was the word in which all things were created by Him.
  • He in the end is also as the Son, the beneficiary or heir of all things.

3-How does Jesus resemble what God looks like?

  • He is the radiance of the glory of God
  • The exact imprint of his nature
  • He upholds the universe by the word of His power
4-What was the main point of Jesus coming to earth and where is He now?
  • After making purification for sins
  • He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high
5-What was finished at the Cross?

John 19:30 (NKJV):

So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

Finished revelation of how God makes a way to be reconciled with God?

The payment of sin?

Whose Sin?

Was a way finished or a greater more decisive victory?
